We’re still working on the new EP, but I’m happy to say that the end is very close. I feel like a broken record: “Ahh, just a couple more weeks and it should be done.” But we really are close, as all the recording is done and now it’s just mixing and mastering. I’m hoping to have the album release show in NYC sometime in mid-January. Stay tuned for that.
The album is still untitled but I’m very excited to say that Casey Joseph Deming will be doing the cover art! I’m certainly no art critique, but Casey’s work just struck me. You can check out Casey’s work, everything from collages to prints by going to the website: www.aptlull.com.
Please check back when you can! Thanks for visiting!
A couple of weeks ago I did an interview with Marty Mulrooney of the UK blog Alternative Magazine Online. You can check out the interview by clicking here. Enjoy!
Over the past couple of months I’ve been working in the studio on my new, yet to be titled, EP. Since the release of my last album, I’ve become a lot more interested in working collaboratively with someone on this new batch of songs. I’m starting to see the greater importance of making a song the best it can be, as opposed to it being about me. For a long time I was fearful of having someone else come in and cloud up my personal vision/expression. I was seeing my songs as so much of a representation of me that I couldn’t let them stand on their own. Anyway, I’m seeing how that outlook can really jam up the process, and possibility, of making a great project.
Knowing that I really wanted to work with someone this time around, I did a lot of searching on the internet. Combed through a lot of the albums that I’ve been listening to recently and tried to figure out who was involved in making them.
It’s been a while since I’ve played some shows outside of NYC (damn “the man”!), so I’m really looking forward to getting down to DC and Philly over these next two days. Excited to be sharing both nights with my friend Caleb Hawley too. *He just released an album that sounds great! We’ll be at Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse in DC tonight at 7:30pm and then at Steel City Coffeehouse in Phoenixville, PA on Friday night. If you’re in either area, we’d love to see you! Until then…
The new music video for Zach’s song “Strange” has just been posted. The video was directed by Scott Fahey of Crowley Productions. Check it out when you get a chance! Just click on the link: Strange
I know I’m a drop in the bucket this week, but I’m so psyched to be a part of the CMJ festival this year. There just seems to be good energy in the air. Come start this week of great live music with myself and the rest of the band at Rockwood Music Hall tonight (Tues, Oct 19th) @ 8pm!
The talented band joining me, features:
Norman Vladimir on backup vocals
Ray West on guitar
Andy Cotton on bass
Aaron Steele on drums.
Hope to see you there! See the full schedule here: CMJ 2010
*I’m listed right under Yo La Tengo -that pretty much made my year. It’s alphabetical, but no one’s paying attention to that…
Check out a live performance of “Devil’s Teeth” by going here: Devil’s Teeth video. *Thank you to Sam Teichman for filming this and posting it!
Getting ready for the drive up to Maine tomorrow morning (Friday). I’ll be playing an acoustic set at Blue in the Old Port at 10pm. (It’s a free show) After that, I’m waking up early on Saturday morning to drive back to NYC for a big show at Webster Hall with the band. It’s kind of a pain in the ass to make such a quick trip, but I’m definitely excited for both shows! *Need to invest in some books on tape…
Here’s a poster that my friend Adam Morse designed for Saturday’s show: 6/12 Webster Hall!
The summer is shaping up to be a busy one. Some really exciting shows on the horizon: Portland, Maine, a huge one at Webster Hall in NYC, Spike Hill in Brooklyn and a post 4th of July bash at Rockwood’s new Room 2! Check out the “shows” section and mark these down on your calendars! We hope to see you soon!
Soooo….
This is my first update on the (not so) new website. I’ve been writing a lot of material since I released “Changing Landscapes” and I’m really happy to have the creative spark going, but it’s kept me away from all the administrative stuff…which is not something I really like to do anyway. If I had it my way, I’d just sit in a studio writing and recording all day every day.
A couple weeks ago I got an email from an NYU grad student named Terence. He told me that he and a couple of his classmates were doing an end-of-the-year project which entailed booking an artist at a venue, promoting the show and selling tickets. He asked me to be the artist. “Really?? You mean you guys are just going to do all the work and then I all I have to do is show up and play?? That’s a tough one. Ummmm, I guess I’ll do it.” Needless to say, I was truly flattered and excited they asked me.
Terence and his classmates, Bin Bin and Michael, decided to book the show at Le Poisson Rouge’s Gallery next Tuesday, March 23rd. The evening starts at 8pm with Happy Hour specials on food and drinks and I’ll be playing an acoustic set from 9 to 10pm. If you’re in the area, come on out…not just for me, but it’ll make the three of them look really good for their class….but also come out for me….
Well, I’ve looked this post about ten times now for spelling errors, so I think I’ll call it good for the night.
